Urging Canada to Fund National Centre for Animal-Free Research Methods

A new Parliamentary petition, e-6841, initiated by Émilie-Lune Sauvé from Montreal, Quebec and sponsored by Nathaniel Erskine-Smith MP, seeks to set Canada on the path to cruelty-free science and real progress for human patients. Below is a social media posting from Animal Justice Academy, along with a link to sign and share this vital petition:
Canada subjects three to five million animals each year to research and testing, forcing them to endure severe pain and suffering—even though over 90% of drugs that pass these tests fail in humans.
The good news is the Liberal Government has committed to transitioning to animal-free research methods like organ-on-chip, 3D-bioprinted tissue, and AI.
The bad news is the government is yet to put any funding toward a national centre (like the one Dr. Charu Chandrasekera was heading up) to make this happen.
A new Parliamentary petition calls on the Government of Canada to not only develop a national roadmap for validating and implementing non-animal methods, but to commit federal funding to a national center to lead the transition to animal-free research and testing.
If you’re a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, please sign the petition and forward this post to FIVE of your friends and ask them to sign and share as well!
