What a big news day Feb 8 was! The Fur-Bearers commissioned a weekend survey via Research Co. and learned that 74% of Canadians support ending fur farming nationally. On top of that, MP Nathaniel Erskine-Smith introduced a private members bill that would end fur farming nationally! Let’s start on the survey: the results are a solid indicator that Canadians are ready to leave fur farming in the history books. Seventy-four percent of Canadians supporting an end to fur farming is significant; particularly when we consider only 16% in total are opposed. We also learned that this is representative across political party lines in those surveyed, and support can be found from coast to coast. Get all the details and check out some cool graphs by clicking here. Bill C-247 was introduced Feb 8 by Liberal MP Nathaniel Erskine-Smith (Beaches-East York), which would end fur farming across the country. We’re asking all those in support of this private members bill to contact their MP and tell them to support the bill. You can click here to get started! If you don’t have a valid postal code, you can still email the Prime Minister’s Office, and a link is provided to do that here. You can see MP Erskine-Smith read the bill into the legislature by clicking here, and learn more and take action by clicking here. On top of all this exciting news, we’re also gearing up for our spring silent auction! We’re collecting donations of items and will be posting more about the auction soon. But if you’d like more information, are a small business owner or have an item you’d like to donate, please click here to learn more and get in touch with Sydney Schaffner, who’s organizing this event. Anne, we have a real opportunity to make an impact and put fur farming in the spotlight, nationally. Please do take time to take action (click here) and check out our Fur Free Friday 2022 content to support your advocacy (click here). Thank you for all you do.
