We are pleased to share this good news from the BC SPCA.

In March 2021, with the help of thousands of our supporters, the BC SPCA called on the federal government to ban the use of strychnine, Compound 1080 and sodium cyanide. We are thrilled to tell you that Health Canada has announced a complete ban on strychnine after receiving new information through public consulation!

These three poisons are used to control large predators such as wolves, coyotes and bears in Canada and are widely known to be inhumane and harmful to the environment. Although this ban does not apply to Compound 1080, the 2021 ban on sodium cyanide and the just-announced ban on strychnine are a major win for animal welfare!

We are so grateful to our supporters for taking action to help end the use of these cruel poisons, and to Health Canada for achieving such an important animal welfare milestone.
