Take Action Against Thailand’s Heartbreaking Baby Monkey “Schools” for Picking Coconuts
Image from PETA
Our thanks to PETA for the information and action below. Remember to boycott coconut milk and other products where the coconut comes from Thailand. The coconuts are being picked by cruelly treated monkeys. Remember not to trust the Thai government’s “monkey-free” certification. Happily there are lots of other non-dairy milk options!
Earlier this year, PETA Asia’s investigators and veterinarian Dr. Heather Rally uncovered the shocking truth about baby monkeys exploited by Thailand’s coconut milk industry. What they discovered will break your heart. Our brand-new exposé reveals that the use of monkey labor is rampant in Thailand, and it all starts with the “monkey schools” that the Thai government shamefully promotes to tourists.
The Thai coconut industry tears endangered baby monkeys away from their mothers and forces them into “training” camps, where workers confine them, isolate them, and break their spirits—all so they can be used to pick coconuts. Some babies are reportedly born in the facility, never knowing a day of freedom. Others are illegally and violently abducted from their families in the forest. They’re kept in filthy, miserable conditions and tethered by ropes so short that they can’t move freely. They’re compelled to endure constant suffering from physical and psychological abuse.
The Thai government’s “monkey-free” certification for coconut farms is a sham. As long as these “schools” continue to operate, monkeys will suffer.
Please urge the Thai government to shut down all “monkey schools” and ban the use of monkey labor by signing our alert today!
Thank you for all you do for animals!
